Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the job performance level of nurses

in Palestinian governmental hospitals in Gaza Strip, to measure the level of

job stress among nursing staff, examine the relationship between job stress

and nurses performance, and investigate the effect of organizational support

as a moderating variable on the relationship between job stress and job

performance. The study utilized questionnaires used in the previous studies. A

sample of (306) nurses working in governmental hospitals in Gaza Strip were

randomly selected for the study. The response rate was (78.4%) . To analyze

the data, several statistical techniques were used such as the descriptive

analysis, reliability, factor analysis, correlation analyses and hierarchical

regression analyses. The study found the level of nurses job performance is

moderate. The level of job stress among nursing staff was high (3. 82) , and

a significant negative relationship between the job stresses with nurses job

performance. The study also found that organizational support moderated the

relationship between job stress and the two dimensions of job performance

(contextual and task) . Finally, the researcher recommends that the decisionmakers

in the Ministry of Health should have a long- term strategic plan

for managing the stresses to ensure that the nurses performance is at an

acceptable level without committing any mistakes.
