Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of privatization of the

Palestinian public sector, types of privatization that are known internationally

and the mechanism of privatization of the Palestinian public sector. I question

whether privatization develops public sectors as it is required, or ends to

monopolize some of them. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher

used the descriptive approach. The study shows that the privatized sectors in

the Palestinian public sector, such as electricity and communications, were

imposed from abroad through Oslo’s Agreement between PLO and Israeli.

Privatization in these sectors was based on monopoly and not on competition

to alleviate the financial burden placed on the state budget. Governments

should work hard to motivate employees to work, produce and have shares

in public sector, and reform administrations and financial and marketing

structure to create competition
