The Effectiveness of a Psychological Cognitive - Behavioral Counseling Program in Reducing Shyness among a Sample of Gifted Female Adolescents in a Saudi Society

This study aims to determine the effective of counseling psychological
program (cognitive - behavioral) in reducing the feeling of shyness among
a sample of gifted adolescent female students in Saudi society. The sample
consisted of 16 female students from the third grade and their ages are
between 14 to 16 years. The researcher applied the shyness measure
which was prepared for this study on the current sample, and then divided
the sample into two groups: the control group which consisted of 8 female
students and the experimental group which consisted of 8 female students
from gifted adolescent female students. The counseling psychological
program (cognitive - behavioral) was applied on the experimental group
only. The results showed the following:
1. There are statistically significant differences in the level of significance
(0.05) between the averages ranks degrees of members of the experimental
group related to shyness attributable to psychological guidance program
(cognitive - behavioral) .
2. There are statistically significant differences at the level of significance
(0.01) between the averages ranks of members of the two groups (control
and experimental), where the decline is evident in the experimental group
averages ranks degrees on the scale of shyness (sub- dimensions and
total degree) attributable to counseling psychological program (cognitive
- behavioral) .
3. No statistically significant differences between the averages ranks degrees
of members of the experimental group between what comes after and
what and what follows the measurements on a scale of shyness (subdimensions
and total degree)
