Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of a group- counseling
program in reducing depression and enhancing self- esteem among drug
Addicts in Al- Amal Hospital in Saudi Arabia. The population of the study
consisted of all drug addicts in Al- Amal Hospital in Jeddeh in Saudi Arabia.
The researchers selected an available sample consisted of (30) individuals
who agreed to participate in the study, and were divided randomly into two
groups: (15) to form the experimental group and (15) to form the control
group. The researchers administrated the counseling program on the
experimental group.
The findings of the study showed that there were significant statistical
differences at the level of (a<0.05) in reducing depression on Beck scale
in favor of the experimental group, which indicated the effectiveness of the
counseling program in reducing depression. Moreover, the findings of the
study showed that there were significant statistical differences at the level
of (a< 0.05) attributed to group effect on self- esteem scale in favor of the
experimental group.
