Abstract

The research aims to know the level of the critical thinking skills among

the social studies teachers in the basic education stage. The study is based
on a sample of (204) male and female teachers specialized in geography
and history forming (46.15%) of the community size. They have been chosen
randomly. In order to achieve the research aims, the California test of critical
thinking skills model (2000) was used after verification of its psychometric
properties. The research results showed that the sampled teachers own a level
of critical thinking skills that is below the educationally acceptable level set
by the researcher which was limited by (80%). The research results did not
find statistically significant differences in the level of critical thinking skills
due to the variables of gender and specialization.
