Abstract

The study aimed to determine the predictive ability of family communication environment, social, emotional and academic self- efficacy among 10th grade students in Ajloun. The sample of the study consists of (400) students. The study used three scales; cognitive flexibility scale, family communication scale and academic, social and emotional self- efficacy scale. The results revealed that cognitive flexibility was significantly medium on the scale as a whole. The level of social, emotional and academic self- efficacy was significantly high on the scale as a whole. The results also showed that conversation orientation pattern was the most common among the participants of the study. Statistically significant differences were found on the cognitive flexibility, family communication patterns(conformity and conversation orientations) and social, emotional and academic self- efficacy according to gender in favor of females. The results also showed existence of a relative statistical significant contribution of academic self – efficacy, emotional self- efficacy and conversation orientation pattern in predicting cognitive flexibility; it also showed existence of a joint contribution (39%) of family communication patterns and self-efficacy in predicting cognitive flexibility.
