The Reality of Applying Governance in the Jordanian Public Universities and theChallenges Faced

The objective of the study was to examine the level of applying governance in the Jordanian public universities and the challenges faced. The sample consisted of 1344 faculty members. To achieve the objective of the study, a descriptive approach was adopted by developing a 40 items questionnaire distributed on four domains: disclosure and transparency, participation, autonomy, and accountability and monitoring. The results of the study indicated that the level of applying governance in the Jordanian public universities from the faculty members point of view was moderate. The results of the study found no statistically significant differences in the level of governance application in the Jordanian public universities from the faculty members point of view attributed to gender and faculty on total degree. Statistical significant differences were found in the level of governance application in the Jordanian public universities from faculty members point of view on total degree attributed to academic rank between professors from one side and associate, assistant professors on the other, favoring professors. Also, the results of the study indicated statistical significant differences in the level of governance application in the Jordanian public universities from faculty members point of view attributed to experience on the total degree, favoring more than 10 years of experience. The most significant challenges faced in applying governance were the presence of hierarchical and divergent administration structures, administrative corruption and the absence of accountability and monitoring.
