Level of Counseling Competencies and Expected Performance Anxiety Among Students of Psychological Counseling at Yarmouk University in the Light of Some Variables

The goal of this study is to investigate the levels of counseling competencies and expected performance anxiety among the students of Psychological Counseling at Yarmouk University in the light of some variables. To achieve the goals of the study, the descriptive method was used and counseling competencies and performance anxiety scales were developed. Validity and reliability of the scales were verified. A sample of 160 junior and senior students from the Psychological Counseling Department at Yarmouk University participated in the study. The results showed that the level of counseling competencies among the students of psychological counseling had a moderate degree (3.58) , and the level of performance anxiety as a total degree had also a moderate degree (2.43) . The cognitive dimension ranked first with the highest mean (2.61) , while the physiological dimension came last with a mean of 2.15. There were statistically significant differences in the level of counseling competencies and the academic GPA, in favor of students who had a very good GPA and above, and the level of study, in favor of juniors. In contrast, there were no statistically significant differences due to gender. There were statistically significant differences in the level of anxiety due to gender, in favor of females, and in the GPA, in favor of students with good GPA and below. Regarding the educational level, the results showed that there were no statistically significant differences.
