The Impact of Social Media on Family Relations from the Viewpoint of Students of the College of Science and Arts in Al-Mkhwah (Al-Baha University)

The present study aimed to identify the impact of social media on family relations from the viewpoint of students of the College of Science and Arts in al-Mkhwah (al-Baha University). The study sample consisted of 200 students, who were randomly chosen from different specializations and study levels. The results of the study showed that there was high agreement among the sample of the study on the reasons related to the use of family members to social networking sites. In addition, there is a high agreement among the sample of the study on the positive effects of the use of social networking sites on family relations, and there is a very high level of approval by the sample of the study regarding the negative effects of the use of social networking sites on family relations. The results of the study also showed that there are no statistically significant differences on the effect of the use of social networking sites on family relations according to the different specialization of the student. In addition, there are no statistically significant differences on the effect of using social networking sites on family relations according to different student level. In the light of the results reached, the researcher recommends the need to work on organizing family awareness programs on how to use social networking sites in a manner that positively affects family relations.
