Reflective Thinking and Its Relation to Social Skills Among a Sample of Adolescent Students in the City of Homs

Abstract

The study sought to identify the relationship between reflective thinking and social skills among adolescent students, as well as to reveal their levels among adolescent students. The study also sought to identify whether there were differences in the levels of reflective thinking and social skills due to the gender variable. The sample included 410 students (210 male students, 200 female students) from a number of secondary schools in the city of Homs. To achieve the goals of the study, the researcher developed the scale of reflective thinking and the scale of social skills. Their reliability and validity were verified. The study results showed that the levels of reflective thinking and social skills among adolescent students were low. There were statistical differences between male and female levels in the scale of reflective thinking and social skills, in favor of males. Moreover, a positive relationship was found between students ’scores in the scale of reflective thinking and its dimensions and their levels in the scale of social skills and its dimensions.
