Investigating the Application of Educational Principles of the Pragmatism Philosophy Among Academic staff at Yarmouk University as a Case Study: The Faculty of Education

Abstract

Objective: The current study aimed to investigate the extent to which the principles of Pragmatism philosophy are practiced by faculty members in the College of Education at Yarmouk University. It also sought to determine whether there are statistically significant differences in their average performance based on gender, academic rank, and the department in which the member teaches.

Methodology: The study employed a descriptive methodology based on an observation card, with a sample comprising 44 faculty members.

Results: After using appropriate quantitative and statistical methods, the study found that the sample's level of practice of the principles of pragmatist philosophy was high across all dimensions, including student roles, teacher skills, instructional methods, and the educational environment and its utilization. Additionally, it revealed no significant statistical differences between the sample's average scores based on the defined variables.

Conclusions: According to the results obtained, the study sample demonstrated a high application of the principles of Pragmatism philosophy. The study recommended several suggestions, the most important of which were to conduct new studies to verify the practices of faculty members in different colleges and universities.
