Reality of Abusement towards Wives in light of Some Variables in Ramallah and El-Bireh.

Abstract

The study aims to identify the average rate of abuse and its patterns

among wives in the governorate of Ramallah and Al- Birieh according to the

variables under study: husband/ wife age differences, number of children,

levels of education, state of occupation, and the economic level of the

family.The sample of the study consists of (252) married wives living in the

governorate of Ramallah and Al- Birieh, aged between (21 and 57) with an

average of (33.24) years old.It was chosen through a purposive sampling and

classified according to the variables under study.

The average age difference between a husband and a wife is (5.92) years

old and a standard deviation of (3.79) .The results show that the wife suffers

from abuse by her husband psychologically and sexually.The average rate

of wife abuse found in the governorate of Ramallah and Al- Birieh

was (54.9%) , which shows a moderate level in abuse among wives in

the governorate of Ramallah and Al- Birieh.The psychological pattern in

the measurement of abuse to the wife was the highest pattern reaching a

percentage (60%) , followed by the sexual abuse pattern which reached

(55%) , and then comes the physical abuse pattern which reached (50%) .

Statistical significant differences were found between the average

grades of abuse for the working wives and the unemployed wives, number

of children, husband/ wife level of education, and economic situation.There

were no statistical significant differences in the average rate abuse in any kind

of pattern (psychological, physical and sexual) with reference to difference

in age between husband and wife.Also, there were no statistical significant

differences in total abuse or any pattern according to the husband’s career
