The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of using 4MAT model
on sixth grade students’ achievement in science and their attitudes towards
it, in UNRWA female schools, in Jordan. The sample consisted of (72)
students who were divided into two groups, experimental and control groups.
The experimental group was taught the light unit by 4MAT method, while
the control group was taught in the usual method. An achievement test and
attitude scale were applied on the two groups before and after the teaching.
The study found the following results:
♦♦ There were significant differences between the two groups in the science
achievement test in favor of the 4MAT group.
♦♦ There was a significant difference between the two groups in the attitudes
towards science in favor of the 4MAT method. These results can be
attributed to the nature of the 4MAT model which takes in to consideration
the students’ learning style, and the pattern of the two hemispheres of the
brain.
The study recommends further investigation and studies in this area to
see the effect of 4MAT on other dependent variables.
