Evaluation of the Performance of the Education Guidance Counselors from the Perspective of Public Schools’ Principals and Teachers in Ramallah and El-Bireh

Abstract

This study aims at identifying the performance level of school social

counselors according to the view of government schools principals and

teachers in the Ramallah district.The study population consists of all

government schools principals and teachers in the Ramallah district, whose

total number for all study stages is 1303.The sample, which consists of 260

principals and teachers (male and females) represents 20% of the whole

population.Teachers for grades 7, 8 and 9 (totaling 1303) are specifically

targeted in this study.

The researcher has used a self- designed questionnaire consisting of 40

items.Its validity has been examined by a number of specialists in order to

ensure language accuracy and the appropriateness of items to the objectives

they are designed for.

The alpha for the overall reliability is 0.89, which is appropriate and

reliable for the study objectives.

The study findings are the following:

♦ There are statistically valuable differences at the level (a<0.05) in the

performance level of the school social counselor according to the view of

government school principals and teachers in Ramallah Branch attributed

to the teacher gender variable.The differences are for the benefit of the

females.

♦ There are no statistically valuable differences at the level (a<0.05) in

the performance level of the school social counselor according to the

view of government school principals and teachers in Ramallah Branch

attributed to the qualification variable.

♦ There are no statistically valuable differences at the level (a<0.05) in

the performance level of the school social counselor according to the

view of government school principals and teachers in Ramallah Branch

attributed to the type of position.

♦ There are no statistically valuable differences at the level (a<0.05) in

the performance level of the school social counselor according to the

view of government school principals and teachers in Ramallah Branch

attributed to the schools level.

♦ There are no statistically valuable differences at the level (a<0.05) in

the performance level of the school social counselor according to the

view of government school principals and teachers in Ramallah Branch

attributed to the period of experience
