Management by Walking Around Practiced By Vocational Schools Principals and its Relation with the Job Satisfaction of Teachers

Abstract

The study aimed to explore the degree of practicing management by

walking around among the vocational schools Principals and its relationship

with the degree of job performance among these school, teachers.The

descriptive analytical approach was used and the sample, which was

intentionally selected, consisted of 335 teachers in the vocational schools in

Palestine during the academic year (2010- 2011) and constituted almost 79%

of the study’s community that consisted of (422) male and female teachers.

To achieve the objectives of the study, two tools have been developed.The

first tool was used to measure the degree by which management by walkring

around has been practiced by the Principals of the vocational schools.The

second one was used to measure the job performance.The validity of the

two tools has been checked by presenting them to a group of specialists who

checked their consistency.

To answer the study questions, the proper statistical processing has

been conducted including: Finding means, standard deviations, the Pearson

Correlation Coefficient to calculate the relationship between power and

direction and practicing of management by walkingring around among the

Principals of the vocational schools, and the degree of functional performance

among the teachers of these schools.

In the light of the results, the study recommended the necessity to design

training programs that would enhance and develop the skills and expertise of

the Principals in the fields of management by walking around with respect to

its concepts and operations.

It also urges the Principals of vocational schools to practice management

by walking around because it provides enough time to identify problems,

improve communication, motivate teachers, as well as achieve development

and creativity to select the best decisions in order to treat the crises that these

schools confront.

It is also important to link the methodology used in practicing management

by walking around within the mechanism of activating the job performance

that achieves harmony with the designated strategic goals that are required

to be achieved in vocational schools.
