Abstract

The present study aims at exploring the relationship between Self disclosure

and loneliness among a sample of Yarmouk University students.

To achieve the purposes of this study, two instruments were used: The first

instrument was a modified version of the self- disclosure questionnaire,

and the second instrument was an Arabic version of California scale for

loneliness. The sample of the study consisted of (869) male and female students

randomly selected from Yarmouk University students. The results of the study

revealed a significant negative correlation (P=0.05) between self- disclosure

and loneliness. In addition, the results showed that the dimensions of selfdisclosure

to parents and same sex friends that predicted loneliness among

males were: The dimension of attitudes and opinions for self- disclosure

to fathers, the dimension of study for self- disclosure to mothers, and the

dimensions of study and financial status for self- disclosure to friends. The

dimensions of self- disclosure to parents and friends that predicted loneliness

among females were: The personality dimension for self- disclosure to each

of fathers and mothers, and the dimension of tastes and interests for selfdisclosure

to friends.
