The Psychological Consequences of Sterility among a Sample of Infertile Women in Gaza City

The aim of this study is to explore the psychological impact of infertility
among a sample of infertile wives in Gaza city, and to determine if there are
statistically significant differences in the psychological impact of infertility
due to a number of personal and familial variables. The study sample consisted
of 2 groups, the first is the infertile group (N= 132) and the second is the fertile
group (N=115). The researcher used (SCL-90) to measure the psychological
impact (psychopathological symptoms) of infertility. The research outcomes
revealed that there is psychopathological impact resulted by infertility and
indicated that there are statistically significant differences between fertilized
wives and infertile wives in the psychopathological symptoms in favor of
infertile wives. In addition, the outcomes showed that there are statistically
significant differences in the level of psychopathology symptoms among
infertile wives due to marriage duration and marriage agreements. Finally
the outcomes indicated that there are no statistically significant differences
in the total score of the psychopathological symptoms among infertile wives
due to the existence of mother-in-laws and the level of economic status
