Internet Addiction and Its Relation with the Psychological Adjustment among the Students of Sultan Qaboos University

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between
Internet addiction and psychological adjustment by using a sample of (290)
undergraduate students from the Faculty of Education, Sultan Qaboos
University, (150) females and (140) males were distributed randomly. The
researcher used Internet addiction scale and psychological adjustment scale
after its validity and reliability to answer the hypotheses of the study. Means
and standard deviations, person’s relational coefficients and T-test were used.
The results of the study indicated that there is a negative correlation between
Internet addiction and Psychological adjustment. The level of Psychological
adjustment is lower among the internet addicted than non-addicts ones.
There were significant differences between males and females in the level of
Internet addiction. Internet addiction is higher among males.
There were no significant differences between males and females in the
level of psychological adjustment.
The findings of this study indicated that there were some recommendations
according to the study results which may develop students coping style with
Internet addiction, and may increase developing social communication skills,
which in turn would help in preventing psychological adjustment.
