Abstract

The study aims to reveal the perception of Yarmouk University students of their relationships with their instructors, and its connection to the perceived self-efficacy and social engagement. The sample consists of 793 students from Yarmouk University, enrolled in the 2nd semester of  the academic year 2015/2016. Three tools were distributed among them: The scale of the teacher-student relationship, the scale of the perceived self-efficacy and the scale of social engagement. The results shows that  the level of the students' perceptions of their relationship with their instructors is moderate, while the social dimension ranked first with a high level, and the psychological dimension came in the last rank with a moderate level. The results also showed statistically significant differences of the students' perceptions of their relationship with their teachers due to the variable of specialization,  in favor of scientific disciplines. The linear regression analysis revealed that the social engagement has interpreted the 32.9% variance in the students' perceptions of their relationship with their instructors, while the perceived self-efficacy interpreted 5.6%. The study recommends enhancing the relationship between teachers and students, particularly the psychological and human aspects
