Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of gender, specialization, and academic year on the interpersonal sensitivity among a sample of students at Philadelphia University in Amman, Arab Open University- Jordan Branch, al-Falah University- Dubai. The sample consisted of 334 male and female undergraduate students from the Business Administration Faculty (N = 91), mass communication (N = 51), law (N = 46), and arts and humanities (N = 146). The researcher applied the interpersonal sensitivity scale, which includes five subscales: Interpersonal awareness, need for approval, separation anxiety, timidity, and the fragile-inner self. The study found that there are statistically significant differences at the level of α ≤ 0.05 and less between students in the subscale which required the need for approval according to the gender variable (male / female), in favour of females and the subscale fragile inner- self, in favour of males. There is an absence of statistically significant differences at the level α ≤ 0.05 and less between male and female students on the subscales: Interpersonal awareness, separation anxiety and timidity. The results also showed that there are no statistically significant differences at the level of α ≤ 0.05 and less among students on the subscales according to specialization, academic year variables and its interaction.
