Graduate Students’ Awareness of Artificial Intelligence Tools at al-Quds Open University, Their Use in Enhancing Research Skills, and the Challenges They Encounter

Abstract

Objective: This study investigates graduate students’ awareness at Al-Quds Open University of artificial intelligence tools, the extent to which they use these tools in conducting research and writing scientific theses, and the challenges that affect their effective use.

Method: The study adopts the descriptive analytical approach and uses a questionnaire designed to measure students’ awareness and use of AI tools in different stages of scientific research. The questionnaire also examines the main difficulties that limit students’ ability to benefit fully from these tools. The validity and reliability of the instrument are verified before it is applied to a convenience sample of 280 graduate students.

Results: The findings indicate that graduate students show a low level of awareness of AI tools, with varying levels of use. Google Scholar, ChatGPT, and SPSS appear as the most commonly used tools. Students also face moderate challenges, including lack of practical training, excessive reliance on tools, ethical and legal concerns, and difficulty accessing free or affordable applications.

Conclusion: The study recommends organizing training workshops, promoting ethical and effective use of AI tools, and encouraging further research to deepen students’ awareness and improve AI integration in postgraduate studies.
