Abstract

This study aims to identify the difficulties that the full- time academic

supervisors at Al- Quds Open University encounter and which might impair

their use of the university academic portal.

The main question the study attempts to answer is:

What are the difficulties which the full-time academic supervisors face

and which hinder their use of the academic portal?

This question entails some other related questions:

- What are the technical difficulties?

- What are the personal difficulties?

- What are the financial difficulties?

- What are the difficulties related to motivation?

- What are the difficulties related to career development?

- What are the difficulties related to communication?

- How can the instances of these difficulties be arranged in a top-down

manner according to their total difficulty level?

- What is the highest level difficulty for each instance of those related

toproblems in using the academic portal and arranged also in a topdown

manner?

The study population consists of the directors of the educational districts

and centers, their academic and administrative assistants and all the fulltime

academic supervisors at Al-Quds Open University in Palestine ( West

Bank) during the year 2004/2005. Each one was asked to respond to a

questionnaire. Out of (202) being their total, (172) filled questionnaire forms

were submitted.

To realize the aims, the researchers used the questionnaire that they

produced by themselves after making sure of its validity and reliability,

depending on the literature in this field.

The questionnaire consists of (68) items distributed amongst (8) fields,

and the answer scale includes (5) answer levels: ( strongly agree/ agree/

neutral / oppose / strongly oppose).

To find answers for the questions, the researchers calculated the mean

and percentage for each item, the total grade for each of its aspects and the

total grade for all aspects.

The researchers concluded that there existed some administrative and

technical difficulties as well as problems related to motivation and career

development .

These difficulties negatively affect the academic supervisors use of the

academic portal. Finally, the study arrived at a number of recommendations

in the light of the findings obtained.
