Evaluating the University Environment at the Islamic University of Gaza from the Graduates’ Perspective

Abstract

The study aimed at evaluating the university environment from the

graduates’ perspectives at IUG and examine if there are differences due

to following variables: sex, academic specialization and GPA. The study

is descriptive and analytical. The study tool «exit survey» was distributed

to a stratified random sample of (858) IUG graduates and it contained the

following domains: general information, registration services, students

affairs, university clinic, students clubs, labs and computers services central

library, scientific labs, cafeteria, lecture halls, university gardens, student

bookstore university playgrounds. Results showed that the evaluative

ratings for the sample were average in general except for the following

items: the number of computers, borrowing from the library, participating

in the students clubs, as the ratings were lower than 60%. The graduates

ratings for the services for the cafeteria , lecture halls, playgrounds,

student bookstore, were average in most of the items.The study showed the

existence of significant differences due to sex favoring male students, due

to academic specializations favoring Islamic Sciences, due to GPA favoring

those with high GPA. The study recommended several points, amongst

them conducting workshops for those who work in the registrar office &

central library in addition to establishing data base in the university library,

increase its resources and students time. Moreover, the study recommended

more support for lecture halls, playgrounds and gardens specially in the

women section.
