The Use of Pictorial Activity Schedules as a Tool to Teach Autistic Children who are in Kindergarten Daily Life Skills

The present study aimed at proposing a program based on
Schedule Photographic Activities directed to autistic kindergarteners
to gain some daily life skills , and find out the effectiveness of the proposed
program. The study sample was selected from a group of autistic kindergarten
children from Mother of Prince Faisal bin Fahd Center for Autism in Riyadh,
Saudi Arabia. The final study sample consisted of four children between the
ages of 4 - 6 years who have been subjected to the proposed program.
“Gilliam Sacale for diagnosing Autism” (Mohammed Abdul Rahman ,
Mona Khalifa, 2004) and Daily Life Skills (by the researcher) were used.
The present study used Wilcoxon formula of small clusters to test the validity
of the study hypotheses. The results of the study showed the effectiveness
of the proposed program in acquiring autistic kindergarten children some
life skills , and improvement in the stereotypical behaviors and social skills,
where the results of post and follow up measurments were better than the
pre ones.
