The Level of Use of Higher-Order Thinking Skills among Islamic Education Teachers at The Secondary Educational Level from The Student’ Point of View in Jordan

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the extent to which the Islamic

Education teachers practice higher thinking skills (critical, creative) in the

secondary stage from the studentsʼ point of view. The study was applied in

Al- Russaifa Educational Directorate.

A sample consisting of (345) male students and (417) female students

was randomly selected, and represented (10%) of the total study population

for the academic year 2009\ 2010.

The researchers designed the study tool which included in its final form

(17) behavioristic items of the critical thinking indicators and (18) items of the

creative thinking. Its reliability and validity were calculated. The 5- grades

scale was used as a basis to measure the extent to which teachers practice

higher thinking skills from studentsʼ point of view.

The study results of the study showed that the Islamic education teachers

practice of the higher thinking skills was medium on the total degree.

A statistical significance difference was found for the gender variable in

practicing the creative thinking skills in favor of the female students. As for

critical thinking skills, there was statistical significance difference in favor of

the male students.

The study recommended reviewing the programs of preparing, training

and qualifying the Islamic education teachers, so that the higher thinking

skills have their priority in the Islamic education curricula.
