Abstract

The researchers and critics focused their attention on Platonic love poets

in the Umayyad Age. These poets' literature gained so much popularity that

it was studied thoroughly and carefully. However, one of those poets was not

dealt with fairly. This poet is Tawbah Ben Al Humayyer Al-Khafaje, Laila Al-

Akhyaliyyah's lover, who underwent a failure love affair.

As it is universally acknowledged that a romantic emotional experience

characterizes the normal human being, this study attempts to investigate this

poet's literature in a profound scientific and objective way.

I selected the third poem of his Diwan as a model and made a

comprehensive analysis of it in an attempt to apply the critical trend within the

contemporary structural and linguistic theory, as most researchers maintain

that this is the best method to reveal the truth. It is a study in the essence of

poetry starting from the outside and moving to the inside.

Therefore, it is a reliable approach in the sense that each researcher

who repeats analysis of the same material will come up with the same or

nearly the same conclusion. I followed five levels in studying Tawba’s Diwan:

phonetic, morphological, lexical, structural, and rhetorical level. I used some

statistical tables to get precise results.
