The Semiotic Function for the Names of Characters in the Jordanian Novel: A Chosen Sample of a Number of Novels
Keywords:
The Semiotic Function, Names of Characters, Jordanian Novel, symbolism, connotations,Abstract
Characters in a novel are usually imaginative. They donot exist except
in the mind of the novelist who creates these characters to represent a social
sample in the society. The novelist then builds the events of the story which
revolve round this character. The novelist then make his character develop
these events and get affected by them in addition to the other elements that
shape the character.
Hence, this study deals with the semiotic function for the names of
characters in the Jordanian novel through tracing the relationship of these
names to the novels.
This relation will be studied from many aspects such as:
1. The tilles of the novels.
2. The main events in these novels .
3. The places used in these novels.
The researcher will also study the way the narrator presents the
characters which in many way carry hes own ideas and viewpoints. The study
will also discuss the degree of relationship between the characters and the
real examples which represent these characters in his society. The researcher
will study all these aspects simultaneously through a selective sample of
novels during the period 1995- 2002.
