Performance Efficiency of the Heads of the Academic Departments at Al- Balqa’a Applied University from the View Point of the Faculty Staff

This study aimed to identify the standard of the performance efficiency
of the academic department heads at Al- balqa’a Applied University from
the view point of the teaching staff. The study sample consisted of all the
fulltime academic staff who are professors, associate professors and assistant
professors at Al- balqa’a Applied University. Their number is (718). The
random sample included (115) teaching staff members. To achieve the aims of
this study, the researcher used the performance efficiency questionnaire. The
results have shown that there is high level performance in the administrative
and technical fields of the academic department heads, but a medium level in
the fields of teaching and learning, working and scientific research, and the
environment and social duties. Furthermore, the study has shown that there
are statistically significant differences in the working and scientific research
field between the human faculties and the scientific faculties in the interest of
the scientific ones. As for the sex variable the differences were in the interest of
the males. There were no statistically significant differences according to the
faculty and sex in the other fields. Also there were no differences in all fields
according to the academic degrees and the period of teaching experience of
the staff members.
In the light of the study results, the researcher’s most significant
recommendation is holding training workshops in operating the academic
department that aim at showing the importance of the role of department
head in developing the environment and social duties and scientific research
through some instructions from the university administration to help them
reach the high level in the performance efficiency in this pioneer role.
