Abstract

The study tackles the expected policy of President Barack Obama toward

the Palestinian cause since he announced his desire to head his compass

toward changing the U.S. policy toward the Arab world and the Palestinian

issue particularly. Therefore, this study comes to explore the extent of change

that may occur by Obama’s administration, and the nature of obstacles that

may stand in front of it.

The study concludes that the expected change in U.S. policy towards the

Palestinian issue will trend toward focusing on specific issues and avoiding

tackling the whole issue as one unit, and it will focus on managing the conflict

differently than it used to under President George W. Bush, without looking

for final solutions to the conflict. On the other hand it will demonstrate its

willingness to adopt a neutral policy by searching for points of pressure on

Israel, the settlements for instance, but that does not reflect its willingness to

practice serious pressure on Israel regarding the other substantive issues.

Finally, the study recommends adopting an integrated peace vision

by Obama’s administration, which could solve the Arab- Israeli conflict,

in addition to ensuring the Palestinian rights, and finding out effective

mechanisms and means to transform it into reality.
