Abstract

The present study aimed at investigating the effect of acceleration and

enrichment programs on the learning motivation, achievement and self esteem

of gifted students in the higher basic grades (seventh through tenth grade)

in Jordan. The study sample consisted of (180) gifted students (males and

females) , (91) of them are students who skipped grades in the previous years

throughout Jordan. And (91) gifted and talented students who were enrolled

in King Abdullah II Schools for Excellence.

The researchers developed an instrument for measuring learning

motivation, and used the self- esteem instrument modified for the Jordanian

environment by AL Khatieb (2004) . The two instruments were applied after

their validity and reliability were found reasonable for the purpose of the

study.

The results showed that there were statistically significant differences

(α < 0.05) in favor of the accelerated students in the levels of learning

motivation, achievement and self- esteem. The results, however, showed

that there were no statistically significant differences (α < 0.05) in learning

motivation and self- esteem related to the sex of the student. However, there

were statistically significant differences (α < 0.05) in the achievement level

related to sex in favor of females.
