Effectiveness of a Group Counseling Program in Eliminating Psychological Stress among 10th Grade Students in Mafraq District, Jordan
Keywords:
Group Counseling Program, Psychological Stress, 10th Grade Students, Mafraq District, JordanAbstract
The study aimed to recognize the efficiency of a counseling program in
coping with the psychological stresses of the tenth grade students in Mafraq
in Jordan. The Researcher used two counseling strategies in the counseling
program: the problem solving strategy and the strategy for the Immunization
against the psychological stresses.
The sample of study was composed of (24) tenth grade students from those
who were suffering from high psychological stresses. The sample of study
was divided into three groups; two empirical groups and one control group.
The two empirical groups consisted of (16) students and the control group
consisted of (8) students. The researcher tested the following hypotheses to
achieve the objectives of study:
1. There are statistically significant differences (α ≤ 0.05) between the
averages of the degree of psychological stress the students of the first
experimental group subjected to immunization strategy against stress,
and those of the students of the control group which was not exposed to
this strategy.
2. There are statistically significant differences (α ≤ 0.05) between the
averages of the degree of psychological stress the students of the second
experimental group, which was subjected to a strategic problem- solving
strategy, and the students of the control group which was not exposed to
this strategy.
3. There are statistically significant differences (α ≤ 0.05) between the
averages of the degree of psychological stress the students of the first
experimental group who were subjected to the immunization strategy
against stress and the students of the second experimental group, which
has been subjected to the strategy to solve the problem.
The researcher has prepared a counseling program according to the
behavioral knowledge theory and the following measures had been used:
1. A counseling program with its two strategies: the strategy of immunization
against psychological stresses and the strategy of problem solving.
2. The components of validity and the reliability of fixity had been found
using the Pearson’s method. The tools of research showed high degree

of validity. The reliability of the psychological stresses measure reached
(0.92) .
The study has reached the following results:
♦♦ The efficiency of the counseling program in coping with the psychological
stresses of the first and second empirical group through using strategy of
immunization against psychological stresses and the strategy of problem
solving.
Suggestions and Recommendations:
♦♦ The attention to psychological stresses by using different counseling
strategies, because the psychological stresses have negative effects on
secondary school students making similar studies and researches.
♦♦ Training psychologists, who work in the field, in applying and recruiting
counseling programs.
♦♦ Studying the relationship of psychological stresses with other variables
such as deviation, difficulties of education , academic collection and
pessimism …etc.
