Abstract

The contemporary Arabic novel has started to occupy a prominent international place and has become an important field that reveals the aesthetics of the text and its space through semantic structures that carry expressive and artistic values. This research deals with the poetics of the narrative concept in Mutawakel Taha’s novel “Warith Yafa” (The Heir of Jaffa) among three main axes.  The first deals with the poetic concepts and the narrative space as essential components   in the modern novel structure. The second deals with the narrative space in “The Heir of Jaffa” particularly in terms of the opening space and the realistic, fictional, indoor and outdoor setting. The third axis explores the role of narrative components in the structure of the narrative space. The research ends with a conclusion, which highlights the most significant findings of the research. The researcher adopted the descriptive and the analytical approaches in his research and benefited from the structural studies in analyzing the narrative text.
