Russo-Ukrainian war, energy security, food security, European Union, offensive realism, Mackinder's theoryAbstract
The study aimed to examine the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian war on food and energy security, assuming that this war cannot be considered bilateral between Russia and Ukraine based on past issues. Instead, it is a result of new developments, such as Ukraine's westward orientation and its desire to join NATO and the European Union, opposing Russia in the great power competition. Interpretations based on Defensive Realism theory and the security dilemma are among the best theories that have explained the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian war on food and energy security, and on the Eurasian continent area, in addition to Mackinder's World Theory, which emphasizes the importance of political geography in guiding and determining the foreign policies of countries.
The study adopted a descriptive approach, focusing on describing events, showcasing the political geography significance of Ukraine, the political circumstances, and their impact on the Russian-Ukrainian war, reaching new knowledge about the concept of food and energy security. The researcher provided a historical overview of the events and their political geographic location, linking them with Defensive Realism theory. The study was confined to the following boundaries: the geographical boundaries of Ukraine's location from a political geography perspective, in the time period since 2021 until now.
The most important results indicated the impact on global supply chains due to the implications of climate change and the COVID.
