Abstract

This study deals with a new topic among the poetry subjects that appeared

in the tenth century (Hijri) (16th century A.D.) which is Coffee. The study

encompasses the topic in three dimensions: In the first I deal with the different

kinks of coffee, its sources and discoverer. In the second one I discuss the

arguments that have arisen about forbidding or allowing it showing the

benefits and harms and the role of poetry in propating these. In the third

part I deal with the praises and flirtation of coffee and the urges of the poets

to drink it by the instruments used for that and what is mixed in it as well s

the acquaintances with coffee shops and the clientele which caused the spread

of drinking coffee between people in that age, and so it became a custom to

the ordinary people and the elite. However, some were addicts.

poetry played and important role in spreading coffee in society as a purified

and blessed drink with many benefits.
