Olive Oil Industry in Palestine: Reality and Future Trends

The Palestinian olive oil industry is one of the promising industries in
the national economy as it enjoys a high comparative and competitive advantages
that make it qualified enough to compete in export markets , especially
the Arab markets. In addition, this industry encourages forward and
backward linkages between both the agricultural and industrial sectors and
within the Industrial sector itself . In view of the importance of olive oil as
a strategic commodity necessary to achieve food security to the Palestinian
and Arab Societies, the study tries to overview and analyse the reality and
future of this Industry so as to make a clear-cut plan to develop this Industry
in order to satisfy the Palestinian needs from this commodity according
to the required quantity and quality. To perform this study, the descriptive,
analytical and comparative methodology was used. To reach to findings of
significance, the researcher mainly relied on related surveys made by the
Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics during the period 1995 -99 i.e ,
the peace era.
