Level of Job Satisfaction among Educational Guidance Counselors in Jenin and Qalqilya Governorates

The aim of this study was to figure out the level of job satisfaction among
educational counselors in Jenin and Qalqilia Governates and to show the
effects of the following variables (sex , civil status , years of experience ,
monthly family income , course of study , place of residence ) in their job
satisfaction .
The population of this study consists of 83 counselors in Jenin and Qalqilia
governates in the second semester in the scholastic year 2002-2003 .
The descriptive method was used in the study and a questionnaire was
designed to collect data . The questionnaire which was used consisted of 52
paragraphs distributed to six areas (Counselors satisfaction of professional
growth , work circumstances , co-worker relation , promotion wages and
incentive system , managerial model of leadership , instructions and systems)
, and the consistency and validity of the study tool was checked . The
questionnaire were distributed to the population and 65 were returned. Four
were excluded because of their invalidity and 61 which remained were
considered the sample for the study . The data were analysed by Weight
Mean , Standard Deviation , Variance Analysis of Multi Repeated
Measurement , Sidak Test , (t)Test and One Way- ANOVA- .
The most important element among the findings was the mean (3.37) of
job satisfaction level for counselors in Jenin and Qalqilia governates was
higher than the grand mean . Therefore there was a significant difference
in level of job satisfaction counselors regarding areas of the study , while
there was no significant difference in job satisfaction for the following
variables (sex , civil status , years of experience , monthly family income ,
course of study and place of residence).
The study introduce many recommendations among there were:
1. The need to introduce pressure for counselors to illustrate their work ,
duties , rights in order to become more aware of the role .
2. The need to establish union for counselors in order to take care of the
benefits and look for their rights under legal union .
3. The need to minimize the workload of the counselors by recruiting new
counselors and minimizing the number of students whom they guided.
