Abstract

To achieve this goal, our study focuses on the long - term relationship among macroeconomic variables real GDP, trade flows, investments and government expenditures using cointegration technique with annual data from the period 1969 - 1988  (before the foundation of the Union)  and the establishment of the Arab Maghreb Union during the period 1989 - 2012. Our empirical results suggest the existence of long - term relationship equilibrium between economic sectors of the three countries during the period 1989 - 2012, which enabled them to realize the Maghreb Union. Therefore, the failure of these countries to achieve a regional integration is likely caused by political factors. Keywords: Economic integration, Arab Maghreb countries, Cointegration technique
