This article aims to present and evaluate successive policies that were common in Algeria in the beginning of the third millennium, which fall within the framework of the achieving food security, and dependon the effectiveness of applying these policies. We diagnosed the reality of the agricultural reforms that defined the agricultural sector over the full decimal, and an assessment was carried out to check the effectiveness of applying these policies in achieving food securities. Based on that we reached a set of recommendations to overcome these challenges. The study concluded that despite all the reforms and policies pursued by Algeria in order to lay the foundations of food security, it did not reach the required level, as the increasing food bill remained high, and the local production has not been able to meet the food needs of the citizens, as it covers only 70 % of the the citizens’ needs. The remaining percent is compensated from imports, which should be reconsidered in thelight of these reforms and programsin order to build a viable agricultural policy that will help in attaining food security.
