The Level of Astronomical Literacy among Students at the Faculty of Science at Al-Quds University

The purpose of this study was to measure the level of astronomical
literacy of the first and the fourth year students at the college of science in
Al-Quds University. It also aimed at knowing the effects of the variables of
sex, academic level, residence and major on the level of astronomical literacy
of these students. The subject of this study consisted of all the students of
the first and the fourth year in the major of physics, chemistry and biology.
An achievement test of 40 multiple choice items was developed by the
researchers to examine the level of astronomical literacy. Study population
consisted of (304) students (N=304). The study was conducted at the end of
the second semester.
The study revealed that the level of astronomical literacy of the first
year and the fourth year students is low. The effect of any of the variables
on the level of astronomical literacy was minimal. The study introduced
some recommendations based on its results.
