Abstract

High Commissioner Herbert Samuel-British hew, decided to issue

A Palestinian Currency in order to support Jewish emigrants to Palestine.

The Government issued this currency without any control on it; therefore

foreigners Played their role on the currency market. The sterleni pounds

cover The Palestine pound.

Palestinians demonstrated against Samuel project, but the government

stopped it by force. Minister of the colonies issued the law of Palestinian

currency on February 7th, 1927. Three languages appeared on it, English,

Arabic and Hebrew.

The Palestinian pound was supported by Sterleni pound until 1948.

Palestine currency was used in Jordan, but in few amounts comparing

with Palestine.

In 1951 Jordan stopped using Palestine currency because Jordanian

currency was issued. In 1951 the Palestine currency stopped using it in Gaza

strip. The Egyptian currency was used.
