Abstract

Relations between Netherland and the Islamic World were dated back

to pre- Crusade times when pilgrims from Netherland used to visit the Holy

Land. Interest in the Islamic World has been increasing since Middle Age.

This paper studies the relations between Netherland and the eastern

parts of the Islamic World by exploring orientalists’ studies. Because of the

geographical, historical and strategic importance of the Islamic World, it

became an open field to European imperialist competition and therefore,

orientalists studies increased to prepare the Islamic World for the imperialist

European states.

The research focused on Netherland orientalism because it is known for

having numerous studies centers with many scholars who were studying and

investigating Islamic books and manuscripts.
