This study focuses upon the French expedition on Syria (Bilad al-Sham)
in 1799. It discuses its causes, military preparations and its invasion to
Palestine. It sheds light on the occupation of Jaffa and the massacre which
was committed by the French army there. The study shows also the local
resistance against the French army through its marching towards Acre. It
explains the French siege of Acre, the military operations around the City
Walls and in Galilee. Moreover, the study describes the failure of the military
campaign and its withdrawal from Palestine. To conclude, the study examines
the results of the French expedition and its impact.
