Phenomenon of Semantic Evolution of the Quranic Terminology
Keywords:

Scholar Taher Ibn Ashour is considered as one of the most profound
and well- written scholars of his time in studying language connotations.
He showed keen interest in his exegesis in the language and in the Quranic
vocabulary from connotative and denotative perspectives. After the revelation
of the Holy Quran, language has developed, evolved and changed. This
research is an attempt to trace this phenomenon, which came to be known
among linguists as the Phenomenon of Semantic Evolution of the Quranic
Terminology, through the study of Ibn Ashour’s Al Tahreer and Al Tanweer
Exegesis. This paper highlights three aspects:
♦♦ The evolution of language from denotations to scholastic connotation.
♦♦ The restricted meanings of words that Arabs used and evolved to broader
and more comprehensive meanings.
♦♦ The changes of connotative meanings of words.
