Abstract

This study shows the sadness phenomenon in one of the Syrian poet

Taleb Hammash’s poetry book called “Em Massaan Ayha Elrajul Al

Gareeb” (Good Evening Stranger) .

The searcher noticed that sadness tone was clearly dominant in

this poetry book as an example to this phenomenon. So this study aims

to explain this phenomenon and search about its reasons and results

by dividing the research in two parts: first, sadness motives. These are

forms in seven motives: alienation, departure of loved ones, the loss of

life, hopelessness, nostalgic memories and death. Second, classifies the

mechanisms of describing sadness in his poems which are: repetition,

heritage placement, autism with sad creatures, safety denial, poetic image

and poems titles placement.

This study does not aim to follow the technical construction or the

atheistic composition in the divan but aim to guess the sadness motives

and its mechanisms expression, so it used the content analysis to fulfill its

goals.
