Problems Which Hinder the Training of Students as Teachers within the Course of Practical Education at Al-Quds Open University

This study was conducted to investigate the obstacles and problems which hinder the process of training students as teachers for these who are registered and enrolled in the Practical Education Program at Al Quds Open University. The necessary recommendations were suggested in order to overcome those problems. To achieve such aims, the researcher designed a questionnaire which was of (67) items; each of these items represents a problem which may face teacher trainees. The questionnaire items were distributed on seven domains: lesson planning, lesson execution, classroom management, resources’ availability, supervision and guidance, principal’s cooperation, and teacher’s cooperation.
The study was conducted on a sample of (438) teacher trainees at the end of the firstsemesteroftheacademicyear2005/2006.Theobtaineddatawere analyzed statistically and indicated that the domain of "the availability of resources" got the firstpriorityamongotherdomainsintermofproblems;whereas, the domain of the teacher’s cooperation got the last rank. This study showed the following results:
1- There were no significantdifferencesasduetogender.
2- There were significantdifferencesasduetothestudent’sspecialization and to the programs of Education and Arabic language.
3- There were significantdifferencesasduetotheeducationalregion,and namely to Nablus Educational Region.
4- There were no significantdifferencesasduetothestudent’sachievement average.
The study recommended and emphasized the necessity for developing the Practical Education Program in light of the universal norms and standards in this field,aswellasincreasingtheattentiontotheaspectsbywhichitmight be possible to overcome the problems which students face.
