Badr shaker Al- sayab’s poem “Alien to the Gulf” is considered one of
those modern poems which has left a clear imprint in modern Arab literature.
It is worthy of study and attention, especially as Al- sayab is a prominent
Iraqi poet and one of the pioneers of modern free verse.
The researcher has read the poem psychologically, thinking it might be
a new way of reading and hoping it would make a modest contribution in
reading modern poetry.
He adopted the psychological approach as a basis for analysis, relying
on Freud’s and Yung’s principles concerning psychoanalysis. He clarified
the positions of psychic pain and worry and how these might affect the text
structure.
Finally, the researcher tried to take advantage of the analytical approach
in such a way that correlates with the psychological approach and serves it
as it serves the text.
