Abstract

The study aimed to determine the size of the scientific productivity
of the Palestinian woman as a faculty member in higher education, and
whether there were statistically significant differences in the volume of
scientific productivity, according to the variables of the study: Degree,
organization, number of years of academic experience, administrative office,
specialty, marital status, the most important obstacles that limit the scientific
productivity, the motives of the scientific productivity. The study investigates
and the most important training needs to increase the effectiveness of women
scientific productivity and suggest ways to develop it for the women in higher
education.
To achieve the objectives of the study the researcher adopted a descriptive
analytical method, and then represented the study sample (86) members of
the teaching staff in higher education in Gaza Strip which is (78%) of the
indigenous community.
The researcher designed a questionnaire for the study and was sure of
validity and reliablity of it.This questionnaire included (55) items distributed
into four areas: the motives of scientific productivity, the obstacles that limit
productivity, the scientific factors affecting and supporting the productivity,
training needs and means of increasing women’s productivity.
The results show the following:
1. The annual average of producing researches was (0.74) , which is
equivalent to one research each year and a half.Whereas for the books the
annual average is (0.14) , and for the translated books (0.019) .Finally,
Palestinian women tend to publish researches and books that are done by
a group of writers.
2. The average of productivity increases in the participation of scientific
workshops and study days, then to participate in research papers and
arbitration research, after that to supervision of Masters and PhD, and
finally the productivity declines in obtaining awards and patents.
3. The highest level of productivity comes in (less than 5) scientific works,
followed by (from 5- 10) scientific works and after that to more than ten.
Finally the scientific productivity of Palestinian women declines in (more
than 20 and 30) .
4. There are no statistically significant differences in the volume of scientific
productivity attributed to the variables (Degree – University- years of
service- the administrative office)
5. No statistically significant differences in the volume of scientific productivity
attributed to the variables (educational institution, specialization, social
status, and housing) .
