This study is an attempt to examine the Islamic and non-Islamic available
historical narratives related to the Islamic conquest of Jerusalem in 16 A.H\
637 A.D which claimed an interest by Caliph Umar Ibn Al-Khattab about
the location of Mihrab or David’s Temple. In other words, it is an attempt
to give a scientific explanation regarding the total silence of the early
Islamic narratives regarding the long texts and explanations reported by
recent sources. Thus, the study will attempt to answer the main question in
this study, i.e: is it really true that Caliph Umar paid great attention to find
the location of David’s Temple and did he construct or plan to constract a
mosque (Al-Aqsa) in its place or that is not more than legends produced in
later circunstances that don’t hold any kind of reality.
