The Impact of Globalization on Arabic Language
Keywords:
Impact, Globalization, Arabic Language, foreign terms, linguistic globalization, cultural globalizationAbstract
This research aims to reveal the impact of different surrounding things,
especially globalization, on Arabic language. We know that the Arabic language
has faced many problems, many foreign words, and terms have entered the
Arabic language. The term “globalization” is still new and intellectuals and
politicians are still presenting different concepts of “globalization” because
of the different cultural inclinations, and contrasting self- motivations. Some
of these intellectuals and politicians limit “globalization” to economic issues
and others to cultural matters, and some relate it to everything.
This research is divided into two main parts:
♦♦ The first part is about the theoretical definition of globalization, and its
origins and types. In this part, I spoke about cultural globalization, which
is one of the most dangerous types of globalization. Cultural globalization
leads to the language of globalization, which threatens the Arabic language
in favor of the English language in the Arab nation.
♦♦ The second part is based on "the field research" that takes the language
practice in a social reality a base for collecting information and analyzing
it. In addition, here I depended on my own personal experience with the
students in the university. In addition, I referred to the newspapers, and I
looked at the names of the shops in Jerusalem and Ramallah in particular.
Furthermore, in studying this phenomenon I used the "descriptive
analytical approach".
