This study attempts to show the role of using metaphor in clarifying the
image of martyrdom and martyrs in the poetry of Palestinian prisoners in
the Israeli jails. The study comprises two main parts. The first is concerned
with defining metaphor and its importance, as well as identifying Palestinian
prisoners’ poetry and its main features. The second is concerned with the
effect of using metaphor for clarifying the image of martyrdom and martyrs
in Palestinian prisoners’ poetry in Israeli jails.
The study also shows the occupation crimes, aggression and brutality. It
demonstrates the unbearable conditions the prisoners undergo in the Israeli
jails through the poetry they have composed behind the jail bars.
It describes martyrdom and martyrs by a heart- breaking rhetoric which
demonstrates the suffering from oppression and unlawful acts.
